Cheshire Medical Center: The Heart of Monadnock

With a history extending 130 years, Cheshire plays a unique and essential role in the Monadnock Region. Ever since Cheshire was founded as the Elliott Community Hospital in 1892, we’ve been a source of hope and healing. We celebrate with patients in times of joy and provide comfort in difficult moments.

We’re much more than a non-profit medical center—we’re also the region’s largest employer. We have a deep understanding of the communities we serve; we partner with dozens of community organizations and evolve our programs and services in response to our communities’ needs.

Joining the Dartmouth Health system in 2015 has strengthened our ability to contribute to the vitality and quality of life in our community. Our Dartmouth Health membership provides us with access to structures and resources that strengthen our ability to serve patients and families, and colleagues who support our efforts to deliver exceptional care. By serving our neighbors responsibly and compassionately, we honor our legacy every day.

A breadth and depth of clinical care

Everything we do at Cheshire is fueled by our commitment to deliver excellent, compassionate care in a safe, well-run environment. From routine appointments to life-threatening personal emergencies, our integrated teams of medical professionals can address patients’ specialized needs.

Cheshire offers a breadth of programs and services not often available at rural medical centers, spanning the entire spectrum of health care. From Primary Care and over 150 inpatient beds to cardiology, gastroenterology, and ophthalmology departments. Cheshire’s flagship programs include our nationally accredited Breast Care and Imaging Center, the Dartmouth Cancer Center, comprehensive rehabilitation offerings, and a sizable orthopaedics department. We’re large enough to serve our community while maintaining a personal touch.

Beyond services offered here in Keene, our Dartmouth Health membership provides Cheshire patients with the opportunity to consult with hundreds of highly qualified specialists across the system. Every aspect of our services reflects our emphasis on delivering outstanding care and compassionate service to every patient during every interaction.

Health and wellness for all

Our work in population health embodies the best of Cheshire: a commitment to the community, an emphasis on partnerships, and a belief in social equity. Cheshire’s capacity to serve as a force for good extends far beyond our Keene campus.

Working in collaboration with other respected agencies and nonprofits, our Center for Population Health undertakes community health assessments, and supports population health initiatives like the Healthy Monadnock Alliance, and provides beneficial community programs—with an emphasis on low-income and underserved people. Together, we strive to remove barriers to good health throughout our region.

A place worthy of support

Generous donors provide the resources we need to improve the health and wellness of the region through the Cheshire Health Foundation. As a nonprofit institution, we depend on the generosity of our friends and grateful patients, some of whom have a tradition of giving that extends across generations.

Gifts to Cheshire have a tangible and positive effect on both the Medical Center and the Monadnock Region. They not only help us implement needed improvements to our facilities—they also support programs focused on making high-quality health care accessible for low-income and underserved families.
